A few more reasons to look forward to September!

If you weren’t already looking forward to the start of next year, maybe these will help. This is a list of picture book and early chapter books from some of our favourite authors that are being released over the summer. I know a lot of you who will be excited to get your hands on some of these!

Plus I’m looking forward to these ones in particular. If you’ve read “The Colour Monster,” you know he helps us to think about our emotions and label what we might be feeling. I can only imagine, “The Colour Monster Goes to School,” will be an even more important book as we head back to school in a very different way after such a long break.

Also for those of you who loved “We Don’t Eat Our Classmates” by Ryan T. Higgins, he has a new book coming out called, “We Will Rock Our Classmates.” I’m sure it’s just as funny!

And last but not least I know this is the one most of YOU will be wanting to check out immediately!! Coming Sept. 2020. I hope you’re as excited to have new books as I am to get them to you!

Book Reviews

Some of our Gr. 7’s have been recommending books for their fellow classmates to pass the time while they’re at home. I thought I’d share a couple here! All books are available through the Vancouver Public Library’s digital collection.

The first is the book “Refugee,” by Alan Gratz.

The next is “The Little Prince,” by Antoine Saint-Exupery.

 

And lastly, is the book “In a Flash,” by Eric Walters.

The Book with No Pictures!

Some of you probably already know this is my FAVOURITE book! Who knew a book with just words could be so darn funny! 😂

The One and Only….BOB

That’s right, for all you “The One and Only Ivan” fans, today is the day author Katherine Applegate’s new book “The One and Only Bob,” is released! I’m sad it won’t be on our library shelves today, but it gives us yet another thing to look forward to coming back to school for! Can’t wait to find out what adventures these guys are in store for.

Also to look forward to “The One and Only Ivan,” has been made into a movie! Hopefully coming this summer 🤞

The Cool Bean

Two of Moberly’s favourite books are “The Bad Seed” and “The Good Egg” by Jory John. And good news he wrote a new book! “The Cool Bean” came out this year but unfortunately hadn’t arrived before spring break. So here’s a sneak peek! The first video is a trailer for the book, in the second video the illustrator Pete Oswald  shows us how he does his own artwork. Super cool! Have you been practicing drawing/painting at home?

 

Mo Willems!

Our Kindergartens are going to be learning about Mo Willems this week, the author of our FAVOURITE Elephant and Piggy and Pigeon books (and a LOT of other great ones too!)

Since Mr. Willems has been stuck at home just like us, he’s created some lunch doodle episodes where we get to see him work and draw and talk to us about books and all kinds of other things!

Read Along….with Oliver Jeffers?!

Morning friends!

Since everyone is stuck at home these days, including our favourite authors, many of them have decided to read their books out loud for you! Lucky us! I’ll be posting some of mine and YOUR favourites here for you to listen along too. And how neat to see how our beloved authors actually look and sound 👏🏼 ( I didn’t know Oliver Jeffers had an Irish accent! 😁)

This book is called “Stuck” by Oliver Jeffers, author of the “Day the Crayons Quit”, “Here We Are” and “How to Catch a Star” just to name a FEW! Enjoy!

Oh the Wonders of World Book!

Happy Tuesday everyone! (it IS Tuesday right? 🧐)

When you login to your library account (library.vsb.bc.ca then enter your student number and password) you are able to access World Book Online. Which is a fantastic resource and has now added a new feature section called Ebooks!

Once you are logged on with your student account, click this icon:

                                                                Username: 39mo                                                                   Password: library

 

Then if you click on eBooks you’ll find a HUGE selection of books to read from home! Early readers for beginners, books on arts and crafts, history, animals, environment, biographies and so much more!

 

Can you find a book on giraffes? Write the title in the comments if you can!

Until then, did you know we can still use the public library? We can’t go in and choose our favourite books like usual, but there’s lots of great reasons to visit the Vancouver Public Library online.

1. They have tons of online books for you to read from home. Just login with your library card and you can access their free digital library with all kinds of different books and audiobooks! Don’t have a library card? It’s easy to register and get one online! (https://www.vpl.ca/librarycard)

2. They have a virtual storytime! Every day you can tune in to and listen to a children’s Librarian read great books aloud, just like you did in Moberly’s library! Just follow this link and click on a date.

3. They have lot’s of games, online information and online resources for math and more! Just go to www.vpl.ca/digitalkids to check it out!
